Parents wish only happiness and joy for their children. Imagine how the parents of Joesph felt when their son was diagnosed with a rare kidney disorder.

One summer, Joseph — a typical 9-year-old who enjoyed watching TV, playing video games and being a scout — developed flu-like symptoms that never really went away. When his condition didn’t improve, Joseph was admitted to the hospital. One month later, he left the hospital.

Joseph was diagnosed with anti-gbm, a rare kidney disorder. For almost two years, he endured dialysis. After finding that his parents were both perfect matches as donors, Joseph’s father, Blake, became a living kidney donor for his son in 1996.

“I can’t really put into words what it means to me that my father donated his kidney to me,” Joseph said. “I simply wouldn’t be where I am today without my transplant.”

Hospital Services

PNTB’s hospital services team provides materials, inservices and individual education to help hospitals maximize organs and tissue for transplantation. The team also provides designated requestor training to certify hospital staff to approach families about donation.

Legislation

The U.S. federal and state legislative bodies have historically supported donation and transplantation. Toward this end, they have enacted laws and put into place mechanisms to create a strong, permanent foundation for saving and enhancing lives through donation and transplantation.
